Everything You Need to Know Prior to Starting Laser Hair Removal Treatments

Are you thinking about using laser therapy to permanently remove your unwanted body hair? Here’s what you need to know about

Laser treatments are a great way to get rid of unwanted body hair for good. Laser hair removal works by permanently stunning specifically targeted hair follicles so that new hair doesn't grow back in places that you'd like to keep smooth. At Laser Bar and Spa we offer laser hair removal treatments from our convenient Herald Square, New York location. We use state-of-the-art Cynosure® lasers to target unwanted body hair on areas of your body, including your arms and legs, back and chest, and face. Our experienced care team can advise you on the best treatments for achieving your aesthetic goals, no matter your skin or hair type.

Winter gives you a great time to begin laser treatments because you can wear long clothes for the multi-week treatment process and be ready for smooth skin by spring. Before you get started with laser hair removal treatments, here’s what you should know, both about the time leading up to your treatments and after.

Before your first treatment

The first thing to think about with laser hair removal treatments is where you want to target. You'll need to take steps to prep treatment areas. For one thing, waxing or plucking hair in areas you want treated will actually diminish your results. You should be willing to commit to just shaving through the entire treatment process.

The treatment process

You will probably need more than one treatment session to realize your best results. We schedule your sessions a few weeks apart to accommodate your natural hair growth cycles, allowing us to successfully target every one of the follicles in your treatment area. Most patients see results after three to six appointments, but it may take more, depending on the area you want to depilate.

The length of your appointments varies based on the size of the target area. Many patients target small areas, like the upper lip or bikini line. Frequently, appointments only last for about 20 minutes. Patients tend to feel a mild stinging sensation during treatment, like being snapped repeatedly with a rubber band.

Following an appointment

There’s no real need for downtime after a treatment, but you should let your skin rest and recover from contact with our laser tool, avoiding hot showers and intense physical activity for the first 24 hours after your appointment.

You’ll begin to see your results within a few weeks of treatment, as your stunned follicles shed dead hair and then don’t regrow again. As your skin recovers from the treatment process, help it out by protecting it from the sun and harsh chemicals, like makeup or cleaners. You won’t be able to tan or dye hair during the treatment process.

To get started with your laser hair removal journey, contact Laser Bar and Spa today. At your initial consultation appointment, we’ll discuss your health history and aesthetic goals, helping you to design an optimal course of treatment. To schedule, call our Herald Square office, or use the online booking tool.
