How Long Will it Take to Remove Upper Lip Hair with Laser Therapy?

Upper lip hair can be a frustrating and often embarrassing problem for many women. Shaving, waxing, and threading are all temporary solutions that require frequent maintenance. Not to mention, these temporary methods, particularly waxing and plucking, can be painful and time-consuming.

That's why many women turn to laser therapy to remove their upper lip hair. Laser therapy is a safe and effective way to permanently reduce or eliminate unwanted hair, but many women wonder how long it takes to see results.

Below, our specialists at Laser Bar and Spa answer this common question.

How long does it take to remove upper lip hair with laser therapy?

Whether you’re visiting our boutique spa in Midtown Manhattan’s Herald Square in New York City for upper lip hair removal, underarm hair removal, or leg hair removal, we customize your plan to help you reach your hair removal goals.

Our team of highly skilled technicians uses the Cynosure® Elite+ laser to remove upper lip hair by destroying each hair follicle. Upper lip sessions are completed in as few as five minutes, although this time can vary if you want to treat multiple areas at once.

During each session, we direct the laser toward the hair follicles in your upper lip area. The laser heats up the follicles, damages them, and inhibits future hair growth. Over time, the treated hair follicles will fall out, leaving behind smooth and hair-free skin.

However, most women require multiple laser therapy sessions to achieve the desired results. That’s because laser energy can only destroy a hair follicle during its growth (anagen) phase.

How many sessions do you need for lip hair removal?

The number of sessions required depends on several factors: the thickness of your hair, the color of your hair, and your skin type. In general, women with lighter skin and darker hair will see more noticeable results from laser therapy. This is because the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicles, so the more pigment the hair contains, the more effective the treatment will be.

Most people need between six and eight sessions to achieve optimal results, with each session spaced about four to six weeks apart. Keep in mind, though, that some women may need more or fewer sessions, depending on their individual needs. During your consultation, our team provides a treatment plan, outlines the number of sessions you’ll need, and discusses all of your aesthetic goals.

Preparing for your sessions

Preparing for upper lip laser hair removal with the Cynosure Elite+ laser is a simple process. Avoid any waxing, tweezing, or electrolysis for at least four weeks prior to treatment. This is because the laser targets the hair follicle, and if the hair has been removed by the root, there will be no hair follicle for the laser to target. That being said, shave your upper lip with a fresh razor 1-12 hours prior to your appointment.

Additionally, we recommended that you avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks prior to treatment, as this can increase the risk of side effects. On the day of your session, arrive with clean, dry skin and skip all lotions, creams, and  makeup.

Finally, it's important to follow any additional instructions or guidelines provided by our team to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
